UNIFOR National & Regional announce $100,000 donation in support of CUPE 11/04/2022 UNIFOR National and Unifor Ontario Regional announced today through National President Lana Payne and Ontario Regional Director Naureen Rizvi a donation of $100,000 in support of their fellow union workers at CUPE who are currently on strike. In the video they both say they support the province-wide protest undertaken by CUPE with National President Lana Payne calls it an unprecedented assault on trade union freedoms for every worker in the country.... Ontario education workers begin strike this morning 11/04/2022 CUPE members are headed to the picket lines today all across the province, after the Ontario government passed legislation yesterday forcing a contract on education workers. As part of the legislation that overrides the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, workers could be subject to fines for every day they’re on strike. The CUPE says they’re undeterred by the threats and will continue striking until members decide otherwise. Candace Rennick, National Secretary-Treasurer tells members not to worry about the fines. “We are giving our members clear instructions,” she says. “If you are fined on the picket line, report that fine to your president and let the union know and we will provide you with further instructions. We are in the process of seeking legal support on that. If the province of Ontario wants to clog up the justice system with $4,000 per member per day fines, then I say ‘bring it on.’ We are ready for that fight...." Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Regional Unemployment Rate Falls To Lowest Level Since 2006 11/04/2022 The regional unemployment rate in the area that includes Bruce and Grey counties fell in October, as labour force declines offset the loss of thousands of full-time jobs. The Four County Labour Market Planning Board says the Statford-Bruce Peninsula jobless rate hit 2.3 per cent last month, down from 2.7 per cent in September. Inverhuron intersection closing next week for construction 10/04/2022 The Municipality of Kincardine is alerting motorists that an Inverhuron intersection will be closed next week for construction. Starting on Monday, Nov. 7, the intersection of Bruce Road 15 and Albert Rd will be closed and impassable to all traffic. The underground infrastructure work will take place for about one week.... Walkerton Hospital Opens Minor Procedure Room 11/04/2022 The Walkerton hospital has opened up a new procedure room for minor surgeries. The South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) says they partnered with General Surgeon Dr. John Stirrat to renovate and open the new room in his office.
