CUPE and provincial government reach tentative deal, no strike today

The province and CUPE reached a tentative deal last evening to avoid a strike of over 55,000 education workers today....  According to CUPE leaders, the deal that was offered this weekend was no different than what the government put forward last week when the union first issued a five-day strike notice. The sides agreed on wage increases of $1/hour per year, but the union was pushing for a guarantee of $100 million put into increasing in staffing levels this weekend, The deal will be taken to CUPE members to vote on ratification later this week....

Ripley-Huron Community School gets generous donation

The Ripley Huron Community School playground project wrapped up a fundraiser-heavy weekend by receiving a donation from a local business. The school shared that they received a $5,000 donation from Huron Tel to put toward installing new playground equipment....

Health Unit Launches Home Takeover Pilot

The Grey Bruce Health Unit is launching a pilot project centred on raising awareness on home takeovers. The GBHU says the Home Takeover pilot, launched in the fall, looks to bring attention to this issue and create response tools....
