Severe storm slams the coast of Lake Huron

Tornado damage survey teams investigated in Huron, Bruce and Grey counties following a severe storm that toppled and uprooted trees, damaged structures and facilities and knocked out power for thousands.... The storm arrived on the Lake Huron shorelines in Huron and Bruce counties around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7 and caused widespread damage....David Sills, executive director of the Northern Tornadoes Project at Western University, said a twister was spotted and photographed over Lake Huron near Port Albert. It is believed it came ashore, causing damage to hydro poles, trees, homes and farm facilities through the Kingsbridge and Lucknow areas. Extensive damage was also reported in other municipalities near Lake Huron, including Saugeen Shores where municipal officials say the storm’s 100 kilometres per hour winds heavily damaged the Port Elgin Marina, Northshore Park and private homes....

South Bruce Peninsula to licence, regulate short-term rentals starting Jan. 1

South Bruce Peninsula now has all the policies in place to launch a program to licence and regulate short-term rentals in the town. Mayor Janice Jackson said the plan is to begin the program Jan. 1, which is also when the town intends to introduce a new four per cent tax for all short-term accommodations....

Salvation Army provides over 400 backpacks for students

The Salvation Army, Suncoast Citadel in Goderich put together over 400 backpacks with contributed school supplies within to be distributed to families in need throughout Huron County.  The return to in person learning led to a growing number of families reaching out for assistance this year as students prepared to head back to school....
