COVID-19:Three New Cases Reported In Grey Bruce Monday

Three new cases of COVID-19 were reported by the Grey Bruce Health Unit Monday. Residents of South Bruce Peninsula, Saugeen Shores and Brockton tested positive.... With four more resolved cases, there are ten active cases in the region. Public Health says there has been one case of the Brazil variant and one case of the South African variant in the region. They say those cases are resolved as identifying a specific variant can take 2-3 weeks. One person is currently hospitalized due to the virus. Over the course of the pandemic, there have been two deaths related to COVID-19 locally....

Bluewater schools to take part in asymptomatic COVID testing

Students and staff within the Bluewater District School Board will soon be able to take part in asymptomatic COVID testing within host hub clinics. The Ministry of Education has mandated that school boards make the tests available to anyone seeking an assessment. The testing is voluntary and consent will be required....

Town Loses Appeal Over Plover Habitat At Sauble Beach

South Bruce Peninsula has lost its appeal regarding the destruction of Piping Plover habitat in Sauble Beach. It means the municipality will have to pay two $50,000 fines. The town was charged by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) with destroying Piping Plover habitat by doing beach maintenance. At the time Mayor Janice Jackson believed the verdict “didn’t fully reflect the evidence at trial,” and they decided to appeal the decision. Justice J. A. Morneau handed down the decision on the appeal on Monday (MAR 8), dismissing both....
